What is a FOD plug?
A FOD plug is a soft insert pressed into an open hole, port, or cavity on an aircraft or assembly to keep out drill shavings, dust, loose fasteners, and other foreign object debris (FOD). Ours are foam fully enclosed in double-coated nylon, so the plug itself doesn't shed.
What material do you use?
Foam cores enclosed in double vinyl coated nylon, a coated fabric that's wipe-clean and abrasion resistant. Ask about specific foams, colors, or fabric specs if your program requires them.
Can you make pads and plugs to our drawing?
Yes. Send a drawing, a DXF/STEP file, a sample, or dimensions. We cut foam on a Laguna Swift 5 x 10 ft vacuum-table CNC, then sew and enclose it in-house.
What equipment do you run?
A Laguna Swift 5 x 10 ft vacuum-table CNC, a Makera Carvera Air desktop CNC with a 4th-axis attachment, 20 Creality K2 Plus 3D printers, an Elegoo OrangeStorm Giga large-format printer (parts up to 800 x 800 x 1000 mm), and industrial sewing and embroidery machines.
How much does a custom pad or FOD plug cost?
A typical enclosed pad or plug runs about $350, depending on size, foam, closures, and quantity. Volume and blanket-order pricing is available.
What's your lead time?
Standard turnaround is two weeks, with rush work available. Ask when you request a quote.
Who do you work with?
We're an approved Northrop Grumman supplier, we also supply Lockheed Martin and NASA, and we welcome work from any industry: aerospace, MRO, defense, rail, energy, film and events, and case and packaging companies.
Are you registered for government contracts?
Yes. Rough Cut is a small business registered in SAM.gov (CAGE 4PDJ1, UEI JWTHS1Q9KFL7).
Are you AS9100 or ISO 9001 certified?
Not yet. We work to each customer's purchase-order quality requirements and inspect every job for FOD.
Do you make anything besides foam?
Yes: 3D-printed ABS fixture clamps and TPU parts (including flexible parts that work like our foam products), tool-control and case foam, and custom embroidery.
Where are you, and do you ship?
We're at 220 West Avenue I, Lancaster, CA 93534. We deliver locally in the Antelope Valley and ship across the U.S.
